Welcome to my puzzles page.

This is really just a collection of links to other peoples' puzzles and a bit of commentary.  A friend of mine showed me a puzzle called nurikabe, over at Janko Raetsel.  I figured if i'm going to try it, I may as well try the hardest nurikabe they had.  It took me a while, but I managed to finish it eventually.  There are a bunch of different types of puzzles at Janko Raetsel, and I started searching for other sites that had more of those puzzles.  Eventually it branched out into what you see here.

Q:  How many puzzles does this page link to?

A:  That depends on whether you count generators and whether you count pages that have a large number of puzzles, but don't have direct links.  If you count generators, then technically there are an infinite number of puzzles linked to from this page.  If you count One Billion Mazes, then it may not be infinite, but it's over one billion.  If you count pages that don't show the total, but appear to show a large number (ex: 'you are playing puzzle #78,324'), then it's probably over one million, but not over ten million.  If you count the total number of pages linked to from this page, it's 431 the last time I counted.

Q:  Is this a comprehensive list for any of these puzzle types?

A:  No.  "The net is vast and infinite."  New data are being constantly added and existing data are constantly being changed.  I searched for additional sites to include, but the limiting factor is a human one- my patience in this case.  Nurikabe as an example- I googled for 'nurikabe' and searched sites listed in the first 10 pages of hits.  I can't say for certain that i've done this for all of the puzzle types listed below, but I think i've done so for most of them.

Q:  What gets a site chosen or rejected?

A:  The site has to have at least a few puzzles to start.  I probably wouldn't list a site that had fewer than about 6 puzzles.  Things that almost instantly get a site rejected are requiring a software download or a login.  I don't want to install your software; I just want to see the puzzle.  I don't want to give you my email address, I just want to see the puzzle.  Or, I don't want to go to the trouble of creating a gmail / hotmail / yahoo email account just for this login- I just want to see the puzzle.  The main idea is that trying to make me do anything instead of just showing me the puzzle is a waste of my time because there's a hundred other sites that don't make me jump through any hoops.  What helps get a site listed is having a lot of puzzles shown right up front with no b.s., with a good, easy to use interface.  In most cases there has to be an online version of the puzzle- I want to try the puzzle right now, in my browser.  Menneske is an exception in that it doesn't let you solve the puzzles online.  You have to print them out and solve them on paper.  I listed that site due to the large number and variety of puzzles.

Q:  You have too much time on your hands, don't you?

A:  Meh.  I have as much time as anyone else I suppose.  I just spend some of it doing this.  The way I look at it, my wife has a husband with a hobby that doesn't involve me dying or getting injured if it doesn't go right.  She's happy, i'm happy.

The two sets of links above and the list below should have the same list of pages, just sorted differently.  One might want to see what puzzles Menneske has to offer, or what site have hitori puzzles.  There's a certain convenience with each different type of list.

This is a list of each puzzle, alphabetically, with a link to each site (Bezumie, Brain Bashers, Brain Stuff, Conceptis, Hirofumi, Krazydad, LGO, Janko, Menneske, Mikio, Nikoli, Puzzlinks, SE, SPN, Wikipedia)'s particular page on that puzzle.
